How do you set the timing on a 1995 Toyota Corolla?

To set the timing on a 1995 Toyota Corolla, you will need the following tools:

* Timing light

* Wrench set

* Socket set

* Feeler gauge

Instructions:

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to disable the ignition system.

2. Remove the distributor cap by depressing the two plastic tabs on the sides and lifting the cap.

3. Locate the timing marks on the engine. There are two marks on the crankshaft pulley and one mark on the timing chain cover.

4. Align the "0" mark on the crankshaft pulley with the "T" mark on the timing chain cover. This will set the engine at Top Dead Center (TDC).

5. Loosen the distributor hold-down bolt.

6. Using the timing light, point the light at the timing marks.

7. Rotate the distributor clockwise or counterclockwise until the timing light flashes when the "0" mark on the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the "T" mark on the timing chain cover.

8. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.

9. Replace the distributor cap.

10. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

*Note: You can insert a 5/32" feeler gage between the top part of the rotor & a 5/32" notch on the magnetic pickup (inside of the distributor). Rotate the distributor until the rotor drops into notch when the feeler gauge is inserted.

Tips:

* Make sure the engine is cold before you begin.

* If you are having trouble setting the timing, you may need to use a timing belt tensioner.

* If the timing is not set correctly, it can cause the engine to run poorly or even stall.
