1. Pontiac (General Motors): The most well-known GTO was produced by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974. It was a high-performance muscle car based on the Chevrolet Chevelle platform.
2. Holden (General Motors): From 2004 to 2006, Holden, a General Motors subsidiary in Australia, produced a GTO based on the Monaro coupe. This version was also sold in the United States and Canada.
So, while the GTO is a well-known nameplate, it has been used by two different automakers in distinct eras, resulting in two very different cars.
