To remove the ice from your windshield, rely on your car’s internal defrosting mechanism. The process is both simple and effective. First, turn on the engine and allow it to heat up. Next, switch on your car’s heater to the defrost setting.
This will allow the warm air to flow over the vehicle’s windshield and help melt the ice. Some cars have to defrost vents near the windows and mirrors. If your vehicle has them, switch them on.
To melt the ice on the windows further, locate the temperature button on the A/C panel and set it to the highest heat. Also, set the mode to airflow. The hot air will now circulate inside the car and heat it from inside, which will help in melting the ice on the windows faster.
To melt the ice stuck on your car’s headlight and tail light, switch them on as soon as you turn on the engine. Flick your headlights and taillights to heat the bulb and remove the ice faster. Let the lights stay on and allow the ice to melt.
Use a plastic scraper to start removing the ice off your windshield. Place the scraper beneath the ice and over the glass surface. Now drag the scraper to remove the ice. Follow the same technique to remove the ice from other windows and headlights. Never use a metallic one as you can damage the glass.
This is an excellent method to remove thick and stubborn ice that cannot be removed using a scraper. In a clean spray bottle, mix one part of rubbing alcohol and two parts of water. Now shake the bottle and allow the mixture to combine.
Spray the mixture onto the windshield and windows and allow it to sit for some time. You can now easily remove the ice using the scrapper. Also, don’t use hot water to melt the ice. The hot or warm water can cause thermal shock and crack your glass.
Use a broom or a snow brush to remove the snow. Before taking your car out, make sure you brush off the place from your car’s roof, trunk, hood, and other surfaces. You can also use your hand to break thin layers of ice. With a flattened hand, smack the hood and trunk. Next, sweep the ice using the broom or brush.
