When can a child sit in the front seat of car Michigan?

Michigan's child restraint law requires that all children under the age of 8 must ride in a child restraint system when riding in a motor vehicle.

- Children under the age of 4 must be in a rear-facing child safety seat until they reach the age of 1 year and weigh at least 20 pounds, OR until the child outgrows the height and weight limits for their child safety seat.

- Children weighing between 20 and 40 pounds must ride in a forward-facing child safety seat while still using a harness.

- Children weighing between 40 and 120 pounds must ride in a booster seat.

- Children who are 8 years old or older must ride in a seat belt.

- Children under the age of 13 must ride in the back seat unless the vehicle does not have a back seat.
