How long can a baby be left in car?

Never leave a child alone in a car, even for a minute.

Children can die from heatstroke in as little as 10 minutes, even on a mild day. The temperature inside a car can rise quickly, even if the windows are cracked open.

Here are some tips to help you avoid leaving a child in a car:

* Always place your child in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat. This will help to keep your child safe in the event of a crash.

* Make sure that your child is properly buckled in before you start the car.

* Never leave your child unattended in a car, even if the engine is running.

* If you must leave your car, take your child with you.

* If you see a child alone in a car, call 911 immediately.

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you think your child is experiencing heatstroke, call 911 immediately and begin cooling your child down by:

* Moving your child to a shady area.

* Removing your child's clothes.

* Applying cool, wet cloths to your child's skin.

* Fanning your child.

* Giving your child sips of cool water.

Stay with your child until medical help arrives.
