Do you have to pay declare your car off the road?

In the UK, you must declare your car off the road (SORN) if you no longer plan on using it for at least a month. This is to prevent you having to pay road tax and insurance. You can declare your car off the road online or visit a post office. You will need your car's V5C registration document and your driving licence. Your car will be taxed until midnight on the day you make the declaration, and you will not be able to drive it from the following day. You can either park it on a public road if it is taxed and insured, or park it off the road on private property. If you park your car on a public road without it being taxed or insured, you could be fined up to £2,500 and your car could be seized.
