- Cleaning and detailing cars. Car porters are responsible for keeping the rental cars clean and free of dirt, dust, and debris. They may also be responsible for waxing and polishing cars, and for cleaning the interior of the cars, including the carpets, seats, and windows.
- Preparing cars for rental. Car porters may be responsible for preparing cars for rental by adding oil and gas, checking the tire pressure, and ensuring that all of the car's lights and signals are working properly.
- Moving cars. Car porters may be responsible for moving cars around the rental lot, such as to and from the car wash, or to and from the customer pickup area.
- Assisting customers. Car porters may also assist customers by answering questions, loading and unloading luggage, and providing directions.
Car porters are typically employed by rental car companies and work at rental car locations. Car porters may work full-time or part-time, and may earn minimum wage or a commission based on the number of cars they clean or the number of hours they work.
