Who pays for a rental car in an accident?

In most cases, the insurance company of the at-fault driver will pay for the rental car in an accident. This means that if the other driver was found to be at fault for causing the accident, their insurance company would be responsible for paying for the cost of your rental car.

If you are the one who was found to be at fault for causing the accident, your insurance company may not cover the cost of the rental car. However, you may still be able to get reimbursed for the cost of the rental car if you have collision coverage on your auto insurance policy. Collision coverage typically covers the cost of damage to your car that occurs while you are driving, regardless of who was at fault for the accident.

If you do not have collision coverage, or if your collision coverage does not cover the cost of rental cars, you may have to pay for the rental car out of your own pocket.
