Why does dad like to take bandit in the truck dear mr.Henshaw?

In the book "Dear Mr. Henshaw" by Beverly Cleary, the main character, Leigh Botts, mentions that his dad sometimes takes Bandit, the family's dog, along in the truck. Bandit loves riding in the truck with Leigh's dad, but Leigh explains that when this happens, Bandit sometimes gets car sick.
