How do you reeplacement sleeperairbag for Volvo 780?

Before starting this procedure read the following:

- Volvo 780 has four Sleeper Airbags.

- The airbags system should be disarmed before starting any work on the

system.

- Never put any objects below the seat during the work

- Be sure to properly handle the Sleeper Airbag unit because an

incorrect handling can cause inflation of the airbag unit.

Replacement - Driver's Side:

1. Press the seat belt buckle until the "click" is heard. Place your left

hand (palm down) under the seat cushion (approx. center). Place

your right hand under the bottom of the front of the seat cushion.

Lift up the front of the seat cushion and turn the buckle outward.

Lift up the seat cushion a little more and unhook the front hooks

and lift out the seat cushion.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Sleeper Airbag unit

by carefully prying it loose.

3. To remove the Sleeper Airbag unit, turn the front of the unit down

and pull the unit straight out from the seat. Lift the unit from the

rear and put it aside carefully.

4. Remove the 10 mm nut and 8 mm bolt holding the Sleeper Airbag unit

holder to the seat. To remove the Sleeper Airbag unit holder press

the locking tag (located on the driver's side, near the rear mounting)

with a thin flat tipped tool and pull the holder out.

5. Install a new Sleeper Airbag unit holder and secure it using a new

10 mm nut and 8 mm bolt.

6. Install a new Sleeper Airbag unit by turning the front of the airbag

unit down and putting the bottom side of the airbag toward the seat.

Place the airbag unit in the seat and guide the mounting bracket

locks. Carefully turn the airbag up and secure it to the mounting

holder using the 8mm flat headed metric bolts.

7. Connect the electrical connector to the Sleeper Airbag unit.

8. Re-install the seat cushion by aligning and reinstalling the spring

hooks into the seat frame, and then dropping it into place. Press

down on the front edge of the seat cushion until it securely

engages with the seat cushion retainer at the front of the seat.

9. Turn on the ignition. The Sleepers should inflate.

Replacement - Passenger's Side:

1. Disconnect the battery ground terminal cable.

2. Remove the center console.

3. Remove the 4 Phillips head screws that secure the Sleeper Airbag

cover.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector, located next to the Sleeper

Airbag unit, by carefully prying it loose with a small screwdriver.

5. Remove the six 10mm bolts securing the Sleeper Airbag unit to the

seat and remove it carefully from the seat. (Note: Lift up the front

of the unit so that the rear brackets can be removed from the

support bar).

6. Reinstall the new Sleeper Airbag unit onto the seat. Tighten the

six 10mm bolts (37-55 in. lb).

7. Reconnected the electrical connector. Replace and tighten the four

screws that secure the Sleeper Airbag cover to the seat.

8. Reinstall the center console. Reconnect the battery ground

terminal cable.

9. Turn on the ignition. The Sleepers should inflate.

Airbag Warning Lamp

If the "AIRBAG" warning lamp remains illuminated (with the

ignition ON) there is a malfunction in the Supplementary Restraint

System. The "AIRBAG" warning lamp should light up at

ignition ON and go out after 4 to 6 seconds. If the "AIRBAG"

warning lamp does not light up at all or still lights up after 6

seconds, the ignition should be switched OFF and a qualified

specialist called in to check and rectify the fault.
