1. Stay calm and assess the situation. Pull over to the side of the road in a safe location, as far off the pavement as possible. Turn on your hazard lights and set the parking brake.
2. Get out of the car and inspect the tire. If the tire is completely flat, you will need to change it. If the tire is only partially flat, you may be able to get by with just adding air.
3. If you need to change the tire, follow these steps:
* Gather the necessary tools. You will need a jack, a lug wrench, and a chock.
* Place the chock behind the tire that is diagonally opposite the flat tire. This will help to prevent the car from rolling while you are changing the tire.
* Jack up the car until the flat tire is off the ground.
* Loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire.
* Remove the lug nuts and take off the flat tire.
* Place the new tire on the lug nuts and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
* Lower the car until the new tire is on the ground.
* Tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
4. Once the tire is changed, drive slowly to a tire shop or auto repair shop to have the tire repaired or replaced.
Here are some additional tips for changing a tire on a two-lane road:
* If you are not comfortable changing a tire, call for roadside assistance.
* Be aware of traffic while you are changing the tire.
* If you are changing a tire at night, use a flashlight to illuminate the area.
* Be careful not to drop the lug nuts or the jack.
* Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern, tightening each lug nut a little bit at a time until they are snug.
