What is a car wishbone?

A car wishbone, also known as a lower control arm, is a suspension component that connects the wheel hub to the vehicle's chassis. It is typically made of metal such as steel or aluminum and has a distinctive Y-shaped design.

The wishbone plays a crucial role in the vehicle's suspension system by providing support to the wheel hub, allowing the wheel to move up and down smoothly while also ensuring proper wheel alignment. It helps control the vehicle's handling and stability, as well as absorbs and dampens vibrations from the road surface.

Each wheel of the vehicle usually has its own wishbone, and they work in conjunction with other suspension components such as springs, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars to provide a safe and comfortable ride.

The name "wishbone" is derived from its shape, which resembles the forked bone found in the body of birds, particularly in the region where the breast meets the wing.
