The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has regulations regarding the storage and handling of flammable liquids, including gasoline, in the workplace. OSHA's regulations are found in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

According to 29 CFR 1910.106(e)(8), "[f]lammable liquids shall not be stored in closed containers within passenger-carrying vehicles." Therefore, it is prohibited to store gas in a passenger compartment of a vehicle according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
