Can you sell your car in Pennsylvania without inspection?

In Pennsylvania, it is illegal to transfer ownership of a vehicle that does not have a valid inspection. An inspection is required for any vehicle that is going to be titled or registered in Pennsylvania, regardless of whether it has been previously registered in another state. This inspection must be conducted by a state-certified inspection station.

If you are caught selling a car without inspection, you could face fines and penalties, including a $1,000 fine, 6 months in jail, and the loss of your license for 1 year.

There are some exceptions to this rule. For example, if you are selling a car to a dealer, the dealer is responsible for getting the car inspected before it can be sold to another person. Also, if you are selling a car to a person who is not going to register it in Pennsylvania, you do not need to have the car inspected.
