Tools
* Spark plug socket (Size 5/8")
* Ratchet
* Spark plug gap tool
Materials:
* New spark plugs (4)
1. Open the hood of your Prism and remove the engine cover, if equipped.
2. Locate the spark plugs. They are located on the top of the engine, one in each of the four cylinders.
3. Use the spark plug socket to loosen the spark plug by turning it counterclockwise.
4. Remove the spark plug by hand and inspect it. The spark plug should have a light tan or brown color. If it is black or heavily worn, it is time to replace it.
5. Gap the new spark plugs to 0.045 inches. To gap a spark plug, insert the gap tool between the center electrode and the ground electrode. Slowly bend the ground electrode until the gap is the correct size.
6. Thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand.
7. Tighten the spark plugs with the spark plug socket until they are snug. Do not overtighten the spark plugs.
8. Replace the engine cover and close the hood.
Note: It is recommended that you change your spark plugs every 30,000 miles.
