- Park the motorcycle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Locate the battery, which is usually under the seat or in a compartment on the side of the motorcycle.
Step 2: Disconnect the Battery
- Disconnect the negative (black) terminal of the battery by loosening the bolt that holds it in place.
- Then disconnect the positive (red) terminal.
- Be careful not to let the terminals touch each other, as this could cause a spark.
Step 3: Remove the Old Battery
- Lift the battery out of the compartment.
- Be careful not to drop the battery, as it is heavy and could cause injury.
Step 4: Clean the Battery Compartment
- Clean the battery compartment with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or corrosion.
Step 5: Install the New Battery
- Place the new battery in the compartment.
- Connect the positive (red) terminal first, and then the negative (black) terminal. Tighten the bolts to secure the terminals in place.
Step 6: Test the Battery
- Turn on the ignition and start the motorcycle.
- Check that the battery is charging by looking at the voltmeter on the dashboard. The voltmeter should read between 13 and 14 volts.
Step 7: Replace the Seat or Side Panel
- Replace the seat or side panel that you removed in step 1.
