Triumph Motorcycles Limited was formed in 1936 when the motorcycle division of the Triumph Cycle Company was sold to Edward Turner. Triumph Motors Limited was formed in 1946 when the car division of the Triumph Cycle Company was nationalized.
The two companies remained separate until 1960 when they were merged to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation. The British Leyland Motor Corporation was dissolved in 1986 and Triumph Motorcycles Limited was sold to a group of private investors.
Triumph Motors Limited was sold to Jaguar Cars in 1994 and Jaguar Cars was sold to Ford Motor Company in 2000. Ford Motor Company sold Jaguar Cars and Land Rover to Tata Motors in 2008.
Triumph Motorcycles Limited and Triumph Motors Limited are now two completely separate companies with no common ownership.
