In some cases, you may be able to avoid paying sales tax if you purchase the ATV from a dealer in your home state. The dealer may be able to collect the sales tax and remit it to your state, so that you do not have to pay it separately.
If you are not sure whether you will have to pay sales tax on the purchase of an ATV out of state, you should contact the tax authorities in your state. They will be able to provide you with the information you need.
Some exceptions to the rule do apply though, such as;
- If you purchase an ATV from a private seller (rather than a dealer), you may not be required to pay sales tax.
- If you purchase an ATV from a dealer in a state with a lower sales tax rate than your home state, you may only be required to pay the lower sales tax rate.
- If you purchase an ATV from a dealer that is located in a state that does not have a sales tax, you may not be required to pay any sales tax.
Always check with the seller to ensure you understand their sales tax policies before purchasing an ATV out of state.
