According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), if you want to operate a scooter in the state, regardless of the engine size, you need a valid class M driver's license or a motorcycle operator's permit (MOP).
To obtain a class M driver's license, you must pass the following tests at your local DPS office:
* Vision test
* Written knowledge test
* Driving skills test
If you are under 18 and want to obtain a MOP, you must also take and pass the following courses:
* Texas defensive driving course
* Motorcycle safety training course
Once you have passed all the required tests and courses, you will be issued a class M driver's license or a MOP. This license will allow you to operate a scooter in the state of Texas.
