What car was the Toyota corona before?

The Toyota Corona wasn't "before" another car in the sense of being a direct replacement. It was the first car Toyota ever produced for the Japanese domestic market.

It was launched in 1957 and was a small, rear-wheel drive sedan. It was originally intended to be a low-cost, fuel-efficient vehicle for the Japanese market, but it quickly gained popularity around the world.
