Who invented electric cars?

It's tricky to pinpoint one single inventor of the electric car. The concept and early prototypes have a long and winding history with many contributors:

* Robert Anderson (1832-1882): Built a crude electric carriage in Scotland, considered one of the earliest attempts.

* Thomas Parker (1843-1915): In the 1880s, Parker built a successful electric car and established a charging infrastructure in the UK.

* Flocken Elektrowagen (1888): This was the first commercially produced electric car, built in Germany.

* Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951): Designed the Lohner-Porsche, a successful electric car in the early 1900s.

Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, several companies and individuals developed and experimented with electric vehicles. The technology faced competition from gasoline-powered cars, which eventually dominated the market due to factors like range and infrastructure.

However, the concept of electric cars never completely disappeared, and recent advancements in battery technology, government incentives, and environmental concerns have led to a renewed interest and rapid development of the electric vehicle industry.

Therefore, it's more accurate to acknowledge the contributions of numerous inventors and companies over a long period of time, rather than attributing the invention to a single individual.
