The firing order for a 1998 Ford Expedition's 4.6L V8 engine is typically 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2. However,
there's no "number 1 coil." The 1998 Expedition uses a distributorless ignition system with individual coil-on-plug (COP) ignition coils. Each spark plug has its own coil directly mounted on top of it.
To locate cylinder #1, look at the engine from the front (radiator side). Cylinder #1 is the front-most cylinder on the passenger side (right side) of the engine. The coil for cylinder #1 will be directly on top of that spark plug.
