1. Under the dash: This is the more common location. Look behind the fuse box, often tucked away in a less-accessible area. You might need a flashlight and possibly even to remove some trim panels to find it.
2. In the fuse box itself: Some Cavaliers integrated the flasher relay directly into the fuse box. Check the fuse box diagram (usually located on the inside of the fuse box cover) to see if a flasher relay is listed and where it's located within the box.
To find it effectively:
* Consult your owner's manual: This is the best place to start. The manual should have a diagram of the fuse box and indicate the flasher relay's position.
* Look at online diagrams: Search online for "2001 Chevy Cavalier fuse box diagram." Many websites provide diagrams showing the location of relays and fuses. Compare diagrams with different images to find a consistent result.
* Check the fuse box: Carefully examine the fuse box, both on the inside cover and inside the box itself. Look for a small relay that's roughly the size of your pinky finger, with two or three prongs.
If you can't find it, a mechanic or auto parts store employee could assist. Be sure to describe the issue (turn signals not working) so they can direct you to the correct component.
