Does the Chevy Cavalier key have a chip in it?

Some Chevy Cavaliers had keys with chips (transponder keys), and some didn't. Whether or not your specific Cavalier has a chipped key depends on the model year and possibly even the trim level. Generally, newer Cavaliers are more likely to have transponder keys. To be certain, you should:

* Check your owner's manual: This is the best source of information.

* Look at the key itself: A chipped key will usually be slightly thicker than a standard key. However, the chip isn't always visibly obvious.

* Try starting the car with a copied key: If a non-transponder key copy fails to start the car, it confirms your original key has a chip.

If you're unsure, a locksmith or your local Chevy dealership can quickly determine whether your key has a chip.
