Here's why:
* Fuel Injection Systems: The LT1 uses sequential port fuel injection (completely different from TBI), meaning it requires a completely different fuel management system (computer, wiring harness, injectors, etc.). The TBI system is fundamentally incompatible.
* Computer Control: The LT1 has a sophisticated engine control module (ECM) that's completely different from the TBI system's simpler ECM. These are not interchangeable. The LT1 ECM expects specific sensor inputs and outputs that the Suburban's system doesn't provide.
* Wiring Harnesses: The wiring harnesses are entirely different and cannot be easily adapted.
* Sensors: The LT1 uses many sensors that the TBI system doesn't have (e.g., various oxygen sensors, MAP sensor).
* Exhaust System: The exhaust manifolds and possibly the catalytic converter may not be compatible.
* Transmission: While both might be automatic transmissions, the control systems and interfaces are not interchangeable. You would likely need to replace the transmission as well.
In short, this is a major engine swap requiring extensive modification and custom fabrication. It's not a simple bolt-in affair. You'd be looking at a significant undertaking, involving a new wiring harness, custom fabrication for mounting and exhaust, a new fuel system, and potentially transmission and other ancillary components. The cost and complexity would likely exceed the value of the vehicle unless you have significant mechanical expertise.
