What does the Cobra stand for on Ford Mustang GT?

There's no official meaning or acronym for "Cobra" in relation to the Ford Mustang GT. The Cobra name is a separate, but related, part of Ford's performance history. The Shelby Cobra (a different car altogether, based on the AC Ace) is a legendary sports car, and the name has been used on various high-performance Mustang models (like the Shelby GT500) to evoke that legacy and signify a higher level of performance. But the Mustang GT itself doesn't have a hidden meaning for the letters "Cobra".
