How do you unhook a car battery?

To safely disconnect a car battery, follow these steps:

1. Gather your tools: You'll need a wrench or socket that fits the battery terminal nuts (usually 10mm or 13mm). Gloves are also recommended to protect your hands from dirt and acid.

2. Locate the battery: It's usually under the hood, but some cars have them in the trunk or elsewhere. Consult your owner's manual if you're unsure.

3. Safety first: Before touching anything, ensure the car's ignition is OFF.

4. Disconnect the negative terminal first: This is the terminal marked with a "-" symbol. Loosen the nut and carefully remove the cable clamp from the terminal post. Set the cable aside, away from the battery and any metal parts of the car.

5. Disconnect the positive terminal: This is the terminal marked with a "+" symbol. Loosen the nut and remove the cable clamp. Again, keep the cable away from the battery and metal parts.

6. Store the cables safely: Make sure the cables don't accidentally touch each other or any metal parts of the vehicle. A short circuit can cause sparks and damage.

That's it! Your car battery is now disconnected. Remember to reverse this process when reconnecting the battery, connecting the positive terminal first.
