Where are the headlight fuses on a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino?

The 1985 Chevrolet El Camino's headlight fuses aren't all in one single location. They're split between the underhood fuse block and the interior fuse panel (sometimes called the under-dash fuse block). You'll likely find fuses for the headlights themselves, as well as fuses for the headlight switch and possibly related circuits (like the parking lights) that could cause headlight failure if blown.

To find them, you need to consult your owner's manual. The manual will have a diagram showing the location of all fuses and what each one controls. Without the manual, pinpointing the exact fuse(s) is difficult as the fuse panel layout and designation varies.

However, generally:

* Underhood Fuse Block: This is usually located near the battery in the engine compartment. Look for a plastic box with numerous fuses. The diagram on the inside of the fuse block cover will show the fuse ratings and what circuits they protect.

* Interior Fuse Panel (Under-Dash): This is typically located under the dashboard, often near the steering column or on the driver's side. Again, a diagram on the inside of the fuse panel cover will help you identify the fuses.

Without your owner's manual, you should:

1. Check both fuse boxes thoroughly. Look for blown fuses (a broken filament or a melted appearance).

2. Compare the fuse ratings on the fuse boxes with a replacement fuse. Ensure you're using the correct amperage. Using an incorrect fuse can cause damage.

If you can't find the problem by checking the fuses, the issue may lie elsewhere in the wiring or the headlight switch itself. A qualified mechanic should then be consulted.
