Your car stalls out when it first starts?

A car stalling immediately after starting can be caused by several things. It's not possible to diagnose the problem definitively without more information, but here are some of the most common culprits:

* Fuel Delivery Problems:

* Empty or low fuel: The most obvious, but worth checking first.

* Fuel filter clogged: Restricts fuel flow to the engine.

* Fuel pump failure: Unable to deliver fuel to the engine.

* Bad fuel injectors: Not spraying fuel properly into the cylinders.

* Ignition System Issues:

* Weak or failing battery: Not providing enough power to crank the engine and maintain ignition. This is common, especially in cold weather.

* Faulty spark plugs or wires: Not creating a spark to ignite the fuel-air mixture.

* Ignition coil problems: Not supplying high voltage to the spark plugs.

* Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) or Cam Position Sensor (CMP) issues: The engine computer needs these sensors to know the engine's position to time the ignition correctly. A faulty sensor can lead to stalling.

* Other Potential Causes:

* Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) problems: This sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. A faulty sensor can cause a lean or rich fuel mixture, leading to stalling.

* Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) issues: Tells the computer the throttle position. A faulty sensor can provide incorrect information, causing stalling.

* Vacuum leaks: Leaks in the intake system can disrupt the air-fuel mixture.

* Immobiliser system: An anti-theft system might be preventing the engine from starting. (Check your key fob battery).

* Alternator: While it doesn't directly impact starting, a failing alternator can drain the battery quickly, leading to starting problems.

What to do:

1. Check the obvious: Fuel level, battery terminals (clean and tight), and obvious damage.

2. Have it professionally diagnosed: A mechanic can use diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact problem. Trying to fix this yourself without proper knowledge and tools could lead to further damage or injury.

Don't continue driving the car if it's stalling immediately upon starting. This could indicate a serious problem that needs immediate attention.
