* Catalytic Converter Issues: A clogged catalytic converter can restrict exhaust flow, causing a loss of power and potentially triggering the CEL.
* Transmission Problems: While less likely to cause a CEL directly, transmission issues can manifest as a loss of power. This is especially true if the transmission is slipping or not shifting correctly.
* Engine Sensor Problems: Many other sensors besides the MAF and TPS can cause problems, triggering the CEL and affecting power. These could include crankshaft position sensors, camshaft position sensors, and others.
What to do:
1. Don't drive it much further. Continued driving with a loss of power could cause significant engine damage.
2. Have the codes read. Take your truck to an auto parts store (like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, or O'Reilly Auto Parts) and ask them to scan your vehicle's OBD-II port for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). This will give you a more specific indication of the problem.
3. Consult a mechanic. Once you have the DTCs, or even before, take your Dodge Ram to a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair. They have the tools and expertise to properly diagnose and fix the underlying issue.
Ignoring the problem will only lead to more expensive repairs down the line. Get it checked out as soon as possible.
