How do you ground the windshield wiper motor on a Chevrolet Lumina APV van?

You don't "ground" a windshield wiper motor in the sense of deliberately creating a ground connection to fix it. A wiper motor that's not working is almost never due to a missing ground. The problem is almost always one of these:

* Power Supply: The motor needs power (usually 12 volts) to run. Check the fuse(s) for the wipers. There might be separate fuses for the low and high speed settings. Also, check the wiring harness leading to the motor for breaks, corrosion, or loose connections.

* Switch: The wiper switch itself could be faulty. This is a common cause of wiper failure.

* Motor Failure: The motor itself may be burned out or mechanically seized.

* Linkage Problems: The linkage that connects the motor to the wiper arms could be broken or dislodged.

To troubleshoot, DON'T try to ground the motor directly to the chassis. This is dangerous and could damage the motor or other electrical components. Instead, follow these steps:

1. Check the fuses: Locate the wiper fuse(s) in the fuse box (usually under the hood or dashboard). Replace any blown fuses.

2. Check the power supply: With the ignition on, use a multimeter to check for 12V at the power wires going to the motor. You'll need to access these wires at the motor connector.

3. Inspect the wiring: Visually inspect the wiring harness for any damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Repair or replace as needed.

4. Test the switch: If possible, try bypassing the switch (carefully!) to see if the motor works when power is applied directly. This is best done with a knowledgeable technician. Incorrectly applying power can damage the motor.

5. Check the linkage: Manually try to move the wiper arms to see if they're free and properly connected to the motor.

If you've checked all of the above and the motor still doesn't work, the motor itself is likely faulty and needs to be replaced. This is a job best left to a qualified mechanic unless you're experienced with automotive electrical systems. Attempting a repair without the proper knowledge and tools can lead to further damage and even injury.
