Where is the fuel gage sender unit on 2004 Malibu?

On a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, the fuel level sender unit is located inside the fuel tank. You won't be able to access it without dropping the fuel tank. This is a job best left to a qualified mechanic unless you have significant automotive repair experience.
