1. Disconnect the Battery:
- Disconnect the negative (black) terminal from the battery. This will prevent any accidental electrical contact during the repair.
2. Remove the Steering Wheel:
- Turn the steering wheel until the horn cap emblem is facing upwards.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the horn cap cover.
- Remove the steering wheel nut using a 19mm socket.
- Use a steering wheel puller to safely remove the steering wheel from the steering shaft.
3. Remove the Clockspring Assembly:
- Disconnect the electrical connectors attached to the clockspring assembly behind the steering wheel.
- Remove the bolts securing the clockspring assembly to the steering column.
- Carefully lift off the clockspring assembly.
4. Access the Horn Switch:
- Locate the horn switch assembly, which is usually mounted on the steering column.
5. Disconnect Wiring Connectors:
- Disconnect the electrical connectors attached to the horn switch.
6. Remove the Horn Switch:
- Remove the bolts or screws holding the horn switch in place.
- Carefully remove the horn switch from the steering column.
7. Install the New Horn Switch:
- Position the new horn switch in place and secure it using the bolts or screws removed earlier.
8. Reconnect Wiring Connectors:
- Connect the electrical connectors to the new horn switch.
9. Reinstall the Clockspring Assembly:
- Place the clockspring assembly back onto the steering column and secure it with the bolts removed earlier.
-Reconnect the electrical connectors to the clockspring assembly.
10. Reinstall the Steering Wheel:
- Place the steering wheel onto the steering shaft and align it properly.
- Install and tighten the steering wheel nut.
- Reinstall the steering wheel cap cover.
11. Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery.
Test the horn switch to ensure it's working correctly before operating the vehicle. If everything seems to be in order, you've successfully replaced the horn switch on your 1997 Ford F-350.
