How do you check the transmission fluid in a 2001 Chevy S-10 standard shift?

A 2001 Chevy S-10 with a standard (manual) transmission doesn't have a dipstick to check transmission fluid like an automatic transmission does. The transmission fluid in a manual transmission is generally filled for life and sealed. There's no routine check required.
