Here's what you should do:
* Check the oil level immediately. Use the dipstick to determine if the oil is low. If it is low, add oil of the correct type and viscosity (check your owner's manual). But don't start the car yet.
* If the oil level is low, or if the light remains on after adding oil, you have a more serious problem. This could include a leak, a faulty oil pump, or a worn-out engine.
* Have the car towed to a mechanic. Do not attempt to drive it until the issue is diagnosed and resolved. Driving with low oil pressure can lead to a seized engine, requiring a very expensive repair or replacement.
Ignoring the check oil light could cost you thousands of dollars in repairs. Get it checked out as soon as possible.
