- Oxygen Sensor Socket Wrench
- Flat-Head Screwdriver
- Oxygen Sensor Gasket
- New Oxygen Sensor
- Thread Sealer
- Anti-Seize Compound
Instructions:
1. Disconnect the battery:
- Open the hood of your Metro and disconnect the negative battery terminal using the flat-head screwdriver.
2. Locate the oxygen sensors:
- There are two oxygen sensors in your Metro, one located in the exhaust manifold and the other in the catalytic converter.
3. Remove the old oxygen sensors:
- Use the oxygen sensor socket wrench to loosen and remove the old oxygen sensors. Be careful not to drop the old sensors.
4. Clean the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter:
- Use a wire brush and some rubbing alcohol to clean the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter around where the oxygen sensors were installed. This will ensure the new sensors will get a good seal.
5. Apply anti-seize compound:
- Apply a thin layer of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new oxygen sensors. This will help prevent them from seizing in place.
6. Install new oxygen sensors:
- Screw the new oxygen sensors into the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. Tighten them securely using the oxygen sensor socket wrench.
7. Apply thread sealant:
- Apply a small amount of thread sealant to the threads of the oxygen sensors. This will help prevent exhaust gases from leaking out.
8. Reconnect the battery:
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal to the battery.
9. Test the oxygen sensors:
- Start your Metro and let it run for a few minutes. The engine should run smoothly and the check engine light should not be illuminated.
Note:
If the check engine light remains on after you change the oxygen sensors, it may need to be reset with a scan tool.
