* You'll need to be underneath the truck. Use jack stands for safety, never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
* The oil pan is located at the bottom of the engine. It's a relatively large, flattish metal pan.
* The drain plug is usually near the very bottom center or slightly to the passenger side (right side) of the oil pan. It's a bolt, typically 13/16" or 15/16" in size. It might have a slightly different size depending on the engine (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, etc.). Having the correct size wrench is crucial.
Before you start:
* Consult your owner's manual. It will have diagrams and precise locations for your specific engine.
* Warm the engine slightly. This will help the oil flow more easily. Don't let it get too hot, though.
Important Safety Note: Always use caution when working under a vehicle. Ensure it's properly supported, wear safety glasses, and have a suitable drain pan to catch the oil. Dispose of used oil properly.
