The oil cap on a 1974 Chevy Nova is located on the top of the valve cover. The valve cover is a metal component on top of the engine. It's usually fairly easy to spot; it'll be a dark-colored, rectangular or slightly oblong piece of metal with various bolt heads securing it to the engine.
