The connector for the knock sensor will be a single wire connector, located very close to the sensor itself. You'll likely find it very near the sensor, maybe even attached directly to the engine block near the sensor's mounting bolts. Because of its location near the distributor and other components, it can sometimes be difficult to spot immediately.
To locate it with certainty:
1. Consult a repair manual: A shop manual specific to your 1988 Chevy truck with the 305 engine will give you a precise diagram showing the knock sensor location. This is the most reliable method.
2. Visual Inspection: Carefully inspect the passenger side of the engine block, focusing on the area near the front and the distributor. Look for a small, usually threaded sensor with a single-wire connector.
3. Trace the wire: If you can locate the knock sensor wire harness, you can trace it back to the sensor itself.
Remember to be careful when working around the engine. The engine and surrounding parts can be hot, even after the engine has cooled down somewhat.
