Where is the location of starter on 1995 Chevy Impala SS?

1. Disconnect the battery cable.

* Park the Impala in a safe location and turn off the engine.

* Locate the negative battery cable (black) on the battery.

* Use a wrench to loosen the nut that secures the negative battery cable to the battery, and then remove the cable from the battery.

2. Remove the battery tray.

* Using a socket wrench break loose the (4) 13 mm bolts that are securing the battery tray.

* Now remove the battery tray.

3. Remove the bolts securing the starter.

* There are (2) bolts securing the starter to the flywheel housing.

* Use a socket wrench to loosen the top ( longer ) bolt and then the bottom bolt.

* Be sure to set the bolts aside.

4. Remove the wiring

* After the starter is unbolted, remove the wiring. There is a harness on top of the starter and a small wire located on the driver’s side of the starter.

5. Remove the starter from the vehicle.

* Gently remove the starter from the engine compartment, being careful not to damage the starter, flywheel or any of the nearby parts.

6. Reinstall the starter in reverse order of removal

* Clean all the mating surfaces of the old gasket with a wire brush and carb and choke cleaner.

* Be sure the mating surface of the starter is also cleaned.

* Place a thin bead of RTV around the water jacket area of the new gasket.

* Install the gasket

* Place the starter in place and replace the bolts. Be sure the bolts are tightened down securely.

* Attach the negative battery cable to the battery.
