How was Chevrolet started?

Louis Chevrolet (born December 25, 1878, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland—died June 6, 1941, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.) was a pioneer of automotive racing and designer for General Motors who co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company on November 3, 1911, with Arthur and Durant. At Chevrolet, Louis contributed much to the design features of early models—he insisted, for example, on center power (between engine and gearbox) rather than conventional rear power plants for racing cars. Although a successful and pioneering racer in the sport in those days, Durant forced Louis on October 26, 1915, to sell out in order to avoid the threat of bankruptcy to the company as they had expanded too heavily for the market then current.
