Tools and Materials Needed:
- New Honda Genuine ATF DW-1 transmission fluid (2.5L to 2.8L)
- Fluid transfer pump or funnel with a long tube
- Oil pan
- 10mm socket and ratchet
- Clean rag
Step 1: Prep Your Car
- Park your Honda Civic on level ground and engage the parking brake.
Step 2: Locate the Transmission Drain and Fill Plugs
- The transmission drain plug is located at the bottom of the transmission pan, while the fill plug can be found on the side of the transmission, facing the driver's side.
Step 3: Drain the Old Transmission Fluid
- Place an oil pan underneath the transmission drain plug.
- Use the 10mm socket to loosen and remove the transmission drain plug. Allow all of the old transmission fluid to drain into the oil pan.
Step 4: Replace the Transmission Drain Plug
- Once all the fluid has drained out, replace the transmission drain plug and tighten it securely.
Step 5: Add the New Transmission Fluid
- Use the fluid transfer pump or funnel to add new Honda Genuine ATF DW-1 transmission fluid into the fill plug hole. Add approximately 2.5 liters of fluid.
Step 6: Check the Transmission Fluid Level
- Check the transmission fluid level by using a dipstick, if applicable, or by using the sight glass on the side of the transmission. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks.
Step 7: Test Drive and Verify Fluid Level
- Start the Civic and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the transmission fluid. Shift through all gears to ensure proper operation.
- Recheck the transmission fluid level after the test drive. Add more fluid if necessary.
Step 8: Clean Up
- Clean up any spills and return all tools and equipment.
