2. Locate the engine. It is usually in the front of your car, but this may vary based on the model of car.
3. Find the thermostat housing. It is usually a round or oval object with a hose that leads to the engine block and another that leads to the radiator.
4. Look at the housing for a small bolt or screw. Remove this bolt or screw to access the thermostat.
5. Pull the thermostat out of the housing. Be careful not to drop the gasket that seals the thermostat in place.
6. Inspect the thermostat. If it is damaged or has a hole in it, it will need to be replaced.
7. If you are replacing the thermostat, place the new one in the housing and screw in the bolt or screw.
8. Replace the gasket if necessary.
9. Close your car hood.
