Preparations:
1. Engine Preparations:
- Check your owner's manual to ensure your vehicle can be flat towed.
- Fill the gas tank to at least 1/4 tank to ensure adequate fuel supply for the transmission and engine.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "Accessory" position. This will unlock the steering wheel and allow the wheels to turn freely.
- Put the transmission into "Neutral."
2. Setting up the Tow Bar:
- Attach the tow bar to your vehicle's baseplate.
- Secure the safety cables to the tow vehicle and the baseplate on your Fiesta.
- Plug the wiring kit into your vehicle's electrical system (Optional)
3. Supplemental Braking System (Optional)
- If required by law or for your safety, install and properly calibrate a supplemental braking system.
Flat Towing:
1. Tow Vehicle Requirements:
- Ensure that your tow vehicle is equipped with a tow hitch and the appropriate towing capacity for your Fiesta.
2. Loading:
- Drive your Fiesta onto a flatbed trailer or into the car carrier of your tow vehicle.
- Secure the Fiesta in place using tie-down straps or chains.
3. Safety Measures:
- Double-check all connections, including safety cables, wiring kit(if installed), and tie-down straps.
- Test the lights and brakes before beginning your journey.
- Follow all traffic laws and regulations when towing.
- Consider the added length and weight of the Fiesta when maneuvering and stopping.
- Periodically check on your Fiesta and make any necessary adjustments during your trip.
Unloading:
1. Preparation:
- Bring the tow vehicle to a complete stop and put it in "park"
- Release the tie-down straps or chains and carefully remove your Fiesta from the trailer or car carrier.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Testing:
- Start your Fiesta and make sure all lights and brakes are functioning correctly.
- Test drive the Fiesta to ensure everything is operating smoothly.
