How do you depressurize car ac?

Step 1: Gather your materials.

- A/C manifold gauge set

- A/C refrigerant recovery machine

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

Step 2: Find the low-pressure port.

The low-pressure port is usually located on the evaporator (the cold part) of the A/C system, and is usually capped off with a plastic cap. It will be labeled "L" or "Low."

Step 3: Connect the manifold gauge set to the low-pressure port.

Remove the plastic cap from the low-pressure port and connect the low-pressure hose from the manifold gauge set to the port. Tighten the connection with a wrench.

Step 4: Open the refrigerant recovery machine.

Turn on the refrigerant recovery machine and follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to connect it to the low-pressure hose from the manifold gauge set. Make sure the machine is set to "recovery" mode.

Step 5: Depressurize the A/C system.

Open the low-pressure valve on the manifold gauge set and allow the refrigerant to flow into the refrigerant recovery machine. The pressure gauge on the manifold set will show the pressure in the A/C system as the refrigerant is removed. Continue to run the machine until the pressure in the system reaches 0 psi.

Step 6: Close the valves and disconnect the hoses.

Once the A/C system is depressurized, close the valves on the manifold gauge set and disconnect the hoses from the vehicle.

Step 7: Properly dispose of the recovered refrigerant.

The recovered refrigerant must be disposed of properly in accordance with local and federal regulations.
