Do you add water to a forklift battery before or after charging?

Forklifts use lead-acid batteries, and these do not require the addition of water before or after charging. Lead-acid batteries generate hydrogen and oxygen while charging, and these gases escape freely through vent caps. Therefore, you should _never_ open (or attempt to fill) lead-acid forklift batteries while charging to avoid battery damage or injury from battery explosion.
