In order to reduce gas siphoning, manufacturers have put in a number of preventive measures:
- Locking gas caps: Newer vehicles come equipped with locking gas caps that require a key or a special tool to open.
- Anti-theft devices: Some vehicles are equipped with anti-theft devices that can detect and deter siphoning attempts.
- Check valves: Vehicles may also have check valves installed in the fuel line to prevent siphoning.
- Fuel tank design: The design of the fuel tank and fuel filler neck can also make it more difficult to siphon gas. Some fuel tanks are designed to be difficult to access, and some filler necks are designed to be too small to fit a siphon hose.
- Hidden Fuel Doors: Some vehicles have fuel doors that are hidden or disguised, making it difficult for thieves to locate the fuel tank.
