Nissan primera No voltage at fuel pump?

Here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and fix the issue of no voltage at the fuel pump in a Nissan Primera:

1. Check the Fuel Pump Fuse: Locate the fuel pump fuse in your Nissan Primera's fuse box. Check if the fuse is blown or damaged. If it is, replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage.

2. Inspect the Fuel Pump Relay: Find the fuel pump relay in the fuse box or relay box of your vehicle. Check if the relay is properly seated in its socket. Listen for a "click" sound when you insert the relay. If the relay looks damaged or is loose, try replacing it with a known-good relay.

3. Test the Fuel Pump Circuit: Use a multimeter to test for voltage at the fuel pump connector. Set the multimeter to DC volts and connect the positive probe to the positive terminal on the fuel pump connector, and the negative probe to the negative terminal. Turn on the ignition but don't crank the engine. If you don't get around 12 volts, there may be a problem with the wiring or connections between the relay and the fuel pump.

4. Check Wiring Connections: Inspect the wiring harness between the fuel pump relay, fuel pump, and the battery. Look for any loose or damaged connections, especially around the fuel tank area where water or debris may accumulate. Tighten any loose connections or repair damaged wires.

5. Fuel Pump Failure: If you have established that there is no power reaching the fuel pump, the pump itself may be faulty. Disconnect the fuel pump connector and use a jumper wire to connect the positive terminal of the battery to the fuel pump's positive terminal. If you hear the fuel pump running, it is likely that the pump is still functional and the problem lies elsewhere in the circuit. If the pump doesn't run, it's likely faulty and needs replacement.

6. Fuel Filter Clogging: In some cases, a severely clogged fuel filter can restrict fuel flow and cause the fuel pump to lose pressure or become overworked, leading to voltage issues. Check the fuel filter and replace it if necessary.

7. Check Inertia Switch: Some Nissan Primeras have an inertia switch, a safety feature that cuts off fuel supply in the event of a collision. If the inertia switch has been triggered, you won't have voltage to the fuel pump. Locate the inertia switch and reset it if necessary.

8. ECM/ECU Issues: Less commonly, a problem with the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Electronic Control Unit (ECU) can affect the voltage supply to the fuel pump. If the voltage checks out at every other point but not at the fuel pump, you might need to have your vehicle diagnosed by a qualified mechanic or dealership to further troubleshoot the issue.
