History
1968-1973
First generation (B-body): The first generation Charger R/T was introduced in 1968. It was built on the Chrysler B-body platform, shared with the Dodge Coronet, Plymouth Belvedere, and Plymouth GTX. It featured a distinctive fastback roofline and came standard with a 375 horsepower (280 kW) 440 cubic-inch Magnum V8 engine. Optional engines included the 426 Hemi V8, which produced 425 horsepower (317 kW) and the 440 Six Pack V8, which produced 390 horsepower (291 kW).
1974-1978
Second generation (B-body): The second generation Charger R/T was introduced in 1974. It was still built on the Chrysler B-body platform but was smaller than its predecessor. It was offered with a variety of engines, including a 360 cubic-inch V8, a 400 cubic-inch V8, and a 440 cubic-inch V8. The 440 cubic-inch engine was the most powerful, producing 235 horsepower (175 kW).
1979-1983
Third Generation (E-body): The third generation Charger R/T was introduced in 1979. It was built on the Chrysler E-body platform, shared with the Dodge Mirada. The Charger R/T was only offered with a 318 cubic inch V-8 engine.
Revival
2006-Present
Fourth Generation ( LX-platform) : The Charger R/T was revived for the 2006 model year. It is built on the Chrysler LX platform, shared with the Dodge Magnum and Chrysler 300C. The Charger R/T is powered by a 5.7-liter (345 cubic inch) HEMI V-8 engine. The current model year Charger R/T has produced up to 370 horsepower (276 kW) and 395 lb-ft (536 N-m) of torque.
