Does it save on gas when driving with overdrive off?

In most modern vehicles, using overdrive will improve fuel efficiency on the highway compared to driving with it off. Overdrive is the highest gear in an automatic transmission and is designed to reduce engine RPMs at highway speeds, which conserves fuel. If you drive with overdrive off, the transmission will shift to a lower gear, causing the engine to rev higher and consuming more gas.
